Proteon Blog

We're attending the LIM in San Diego this coming week. We're going to have a lot of fun and we're excited to reconnect with all of our friends.  We don't know exactly where we are going to be setting up our office hours so we'll let you know once we arrive tomorrow.

In other news, in July, we launched a great new customer support portal. It's insanely easy to browse our extensive video training, support articles, or get a hold of our 24/7 customer support. It also has an app store for all of the services and add-ons for your chapter.

Additionally, we've just launched our new website. It's pretty simple right now, just an easy-to-use website detailing what we do for and how we do it. We plan on expanding it over the next few months, adding requested features like support forums, new board member training, and best practices on how to run your chapter.

Its been another great year for growth in the partnership with many new chapters joining the cooperative.  We are now at 135+ PMI Chapters.  More than three times the size of all the other providers combined!

See you soon!

A dangerous easy-to-exploit vulnerability called httpoxy discovered 15 years ago, reappeared again yesterday, leaving server-side website software potentially open to attackers. This security hole impacts a large number of PHP and CGI web-apps. This means that anything that runs on PHP, Apache, Go, HHVM, Python can be vulnerable. The exploit allows man-in-the-middle attacks that could compromise web servers and potentially access sensitive data or seize control of the code. Thanks to our unique in-house developed systems and some precautions taken ahead of time by our DevOps team, Proteon partners are unaffected by the return of the vulnerability.

In response to feedback from chapter members about our customer support system, we are upgrading our service desk system.  The new system is current best in class.

As you can tell we’re pretty excited but here’s what it means for you:
  • Our knowledge base is now organized and searchable.  All of our training is now just a search bar away.
  • You can now create a ticket by simply sending us an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
  • You can drag and drop images directly into the ticket editor.
  • You can view all your open tickets at once by going to helpdesk.proteonsoftware.com, logging in, and clicking the big “Tickets” button.
  • You can request and be granted access to view all tickets for your chapter, not just ones you submitted.  Entire teams can view the same ticket list.

This new system is already live at helpdesk.proteonsoftware.com.  You can head there now to start using it.  All of your open tickets are already in the system.

We want to be the best partners for our chapters, so we’re giving our customer support this upgrade for you.  We’ve worked hard putting this together for you and this represents substantial growth in our capability so serve the cooperative.

The best part is that it’s a platform we can grow into, with a crazy amount of good features for you.  This is just the start of what this new platform can do, and you should keep an eye out for more great things in the future.

Some chapters may have received a notice from PayPal concerning security changes.

All Proteon sites are compliant and there is no action necessary for the chapters.

Proteon upgraded all the sites last year in anticipation of this.  Here is a little background on PayPal's actions.

Due to security concerns over advances in computing power, the industry is phasing out 1024-bit SSL certificates (G2) in favor of 2048-bit certificates (G5), and is moving towards a higher strength data encryption algorithm to secure data transmission, SHA-2 (256) over the older SHA-1 algorithm standard.

Since Chrome already deprecated support for SHA-1 by the end of 2015, and all support for SHA-1 will be deprecated by the end of 2016, they need to act soon to implement these changes.

PayPal will ensure that all SSL certificates meet the following standards:

Discontinue support for secure connections that require validation with the VeriSign G2 Root Certificate; only validate with the VeriSign G5 Root Certificate.

Use a stronger algorithm by upgrading from SHA-1 to SHA-2 (256).

To reiterate all Proteon sites are compliant and there is no action necessary for the chapters.

The PMI Website pmi.org will be offline from 8:00 PM US Eastern time to 4:00 AM US Eastern time.

This will affect:

  • PMI.org, myPMI, Search, Store (Marketplace)
  • Certification, CCRS, Cert Admin
  • CRS, VRMS, Component System, Exposure Draft
  • CRM, Reports, Tech Admin
  • Contact Information

As per usual all PROTEON websites will be online and operational.  You will still be able to accept event registrations and login regardless of the impacts to pmi.org.

If you have any issues at all please submit a ticket and we'll help you out right away.

If you're not a member of the Proteon Family of PMI Chapters then contact us and we'll be happy to help you out!
